The China Fund, Inc. Adjourns Annual Meeting of Stockholders
NEW YORK, February 26, 2004

The China Fund, Inc. (NYSE: CHN), convened its Annual Meeting of Stockholders on February 26, 2004. At the meeting it was decided to adjourn the meeting in order to allow more stockholders to vote on the two proposals contained in the Proxy Statement because a quorum was not reached on Proposal two. The Annual Meeting of Stockholders will be adjourned until March 18, 2004 at 10:00 AM at State Street Corporation's Lafayette Corporate Center, 2 Avenue de Lafayette, Boston, MA. Stockholders of record at the close of business on January 2, 2004 will be entitled to vote at the March 18, 2004 meeting. Those stockholders who have not yet voted are encouraged to do so.

The Fund is a closed-end management investment company seeking long-term capital

appreciation primarily through investment in the equity securities of companies engaged

in a substantial amount of business in the People's Republic of China.

The China Fund, Inc. is traded on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker symbol
